The latest update on Panchkula Dussehra 2025 — what’s happening, what’s new, timings & key highlights

Dussehra 2025

Panchkula is gearing up for one of its grandest Dussehra celebrations in recent memory. This year’s event promises to be larger, more spectacular, and more ambitious than ever before. The centerpiece is the giant Ravana effigy being erected at the Shalimar Ground, Sector 5, which will be accompanied — for the first time in Panchkula — by effigies of Meghnad and Kumbhakarna, each standing 100 feet tall.

What’s especially striking: the Ravana effigy this year is expected to reach around 180 feet in height, making it one of the tallest in the Tricity region (Chandigarh–Panchkula–Mohali). Reports suggest that around ₹25 lakh has been invested in building this massive structure. About 5,000 firecrackers are expected to be embedded within the structure to create a dramatic fireworks display during the burning ceremony.

  • Ravana Dahan (Burning Ceremony): The burning is expected to take place in the afternoon, around the auspicious muhurat window — often between 2:10 PM and 2:57 PM on this day.
  • Preparations & Erecting: The effigies are being erected in the days leading up to Oct 2, with final touchups and safety inspections ongoing.
  • Crowd & Road Management: Authorities are likely to open gates early, restrict vehicle movements in nearby roads, and arrange parking in sectors close to the ground for spectators.

Because of the scale of the event, spectators are advised to arrive well before the burning ceremony begins, to avoid bottlenecks, security checks, and exit chaos afterward.

Key Highlights & What’s New in Dussehra

1. Tallest Ravana in the Region

With its 180-foot height, this Ravana is set to claim the title of Tricity’s tallest effigy, surpassing previous years’ records in Dussehra.

2. Triple Effigy Burning

For the first time in Panchkula’s Dussehra history, all three effigies — Ravana, Meghnad, and Kumbhakarna — will be burned together, making the spectacle more elaborate and meaningful.

3. Massive Fireworks Display

The embedded fireworks (roughly 5,000 crackers) built into the main effigy will light up the sky in synchronized bursts during the burning. This adds both drama and scale to the visual experience.

4. Heavy Investment & Craftsmanship

The cost, layout, materials, and labor all reflect serious commitment: efficient planning, structural integrity, artistic design — all are high priority this year.

5. Remote-Control Burning, Eco Features

To enhance safety and spectacle, the burning process is expected to be triggered by remote control, minimizing manual risk. Also, some coverage suggests that parts of the fireworks or materials may be “eco-friendly” to reduce pollution.

6. Public & Media Buzz

Local social media pages, reels, and news outlets are already abuzz. People are sharing glimpses of the effigies being raised, features of the setup, and inviting everyone to witness the grand show.

Tips for Visitors & Spectators

  • Best view spots: Early arrival at Shalimar Ground or adjacent open sectors.
  • Dress & comfort: Wear comfortable clothing, carry water, sunshade gear.
  • Transport: Use public transport or carpool; many routes may close near the ground.
  • Safety: Follow police instructions, stay behind safety barriers, avoid fireworks area.
  • Exit strategy: Know the exit routes before arrival — crowd dispersal can be chaotic right after burning.
  • Photography & video: Arrive early for good vantage points; the full spectacle will be short but intense.

The effigy is being crafted under the supervision of Usmaan Qureshi’s team, involving close to 25 artisans and workers. Their materials include thousands of bamboo poles, heavy fabric, iron, and structural supports — all to ensure it stands tall and safe for the public spectacle

This ambitious display isn’t just about size — it’s about making an impact. Locals and tourists alike are expected to flock to see the towering figures. The inclusion of three effigies burning together elevates the event’s symbolic meaning: not merely celebrating the defeat of Ravana, but also rendering homage to the defeat of arrogance (Ravana), misuse of power (Meghnad), and ignorance in loyalty (Kumbhakarna).and visit haryanatourism
